Journal Entry for Tyler - Changing Diapers

You slept so much the first day home (I emphasize the word day b/c you didn’t sleep the first night). We had to wake you up to eat and change your diapers. Your first diaper changes were filled with surprise and ambush attacks. Of course your diaper changes are still like that. Your dad and I believe that this is how you pay us back if you don’t like something.

You give us fits when we try to change your diapers. You are outraged that we would attempt to change your diaper. You tighten your legs so that we have a hard time putting on the diaper. You also have a tendency to pull your feet up real close and we have a hard time keeping your feet out of the messy diapers. You are a real stinker!

We are amazed at how strong you are. We can feel your little muscles beneath that little bit of baby fat when you fight us on changing your diapers.

A Couple of Examples…
The first day home you surprise us and pee all over us and yourself during a diaper change.

You ambush me after your first sponge bath in water after your umbilical stump fell off. You see I didn’t want you to make a mess in the little bit of bath water I had drawn so I left your diaper on while bathing you. Well, I decide to take off the diaper and transfer you from the bathroom to the changing table in your room. I had you wrapped in a towel, but that apparently wasn’t good enough. Before I get you on the changing table, I hear a splatter. I look down and I am covered in poop. It was on my shirt, on my pants, and also on the floor. I finally get you cleaned up and then you pee all over yourself and me. I then get you cleaned up from that and you then proceed to spit up. It really was a lose lose situation.

Your dad and I can only laugh when these things happen. You definitely keep us on our toes and teach many valuable lessons along the way.
